Apostasy Watch

Doyle Davidson - Apostle or Liar – Part 1

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: Rev 2:2

Doyle Davidson claims to be an apostle and a prophet sent by God to minister to the body of Christ in Plano Texas. Davidson is not a national figure. He has never had a large mega church or any real national impact. He is primarily a local figure in the Dallas, Ft. Worth area who broadcasts his ‘church service’ here and in a few markets across the mid west.

Between the years 2001 to 2003 I regularly attended Davidson’s Water of Life Church in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I got to know him a little and was invited by him to speak at the church on two occasions. In November 2003 I stopped attending this church for reasons I will explain later. Since that time I have witnessed first hand God’s judgment fall upon a man who at one time was (perhaps?) a true minister of the gospel. Today, however Doyle Davidson has exposed himself as a false apostle and a liar.

On September 9, 2004 Doyle Davidson was arrested for public intoxication. After his arrest, Davidson admitted from his pulpit that he had consumed ‘one glass’ of wine prior to his interaction with the police. He further stated from the pulpit and on his television broadcast that he would not fight the charges in court but would pay the fine and allow God to vindicate him.

Since that time Davidson has not allowed God to vindicate him but rather has railed against the Plano police department and two long time church employees alleging that all of them lied against him. Claiming that a police officer lied under oath in his official report is a serious charge. If Davidson wished to make this charge he should have had his day in court and faced his accusers like a man. He chose not to do that. Now he would rather stand behind the safety of his pulpit and the television camera’s where his accusers cannot answer his charges. In this he shows himself to be a bully and a coward.

The trouble began when Doyle went to the home of his long time employee and mistress Lisa Staton. At that time, Staton had been attempting to end a 17 year sexual relationship with Davidson and reconcile with her husband JR (Harold) Staton, also a Water of Life employee. When he arrived, Lisa was at home but did not want to talk to him and would not answer the door. Soon thereafter JR arrived and let Davidson into the house. The following narrative is taken verbatim from the police report, a copy of which I have in my possession.

On 9-09-2004 at approximately 2340 hours, Officer Pace an I (Officer McEntire #1600) were dispatched to **** ******* Drive in Plano, Collin County, Texas in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival I made contact with Officer Pace who advised that Lisa Staton and Harold Staton were assaulted by Doyle Eugene Davidson (W/M/04-01-32). Officer Pace also informed me that Davidson (defendant) was being somewhat uncooperative toward him.

I then made contact with Davidson and asked him what his version of events were. Davidson stated that Lisa Staton was upset with him and that she was saying the he was possessed with Satan. Davidson said that he went upstairs where Lisa Staton was, at which time she became upset and began scratching him. Davidson stated that she did not hurt him nor did he take the contact as offensive. Davidson was raising his voice stating that Lisa and Harold were both fired from their church for calling the police. While speaking with Davidson I could smell a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath.

I then compared the version of events with Officer Pace who spoke with both victims. Pace was told by the victims that Davidson came over that evening but Lisa who was at home, did not answer the door because she did not want Davidson inside her house. A short time later, Harold arrived and allowed Davidson to enter the house. They state that soon there after Davidson went upstairs and began attacking Lisa by throwing her on a couch, sitting on top of her, then started smothering her and choking her. Pace was informed that Lisa could not breathe due to Davidson covering her mouth with his hands. Harold then went upstairs after he heard Lisa yell. Harold saw Davidson sitting on top of Lisa and went to get him off of her when Davidson took a swing at him. Harold dodged the throw then wrestled Davidson from Lisa. Harold next called 911 for help.

Lisa had redness around her chest and throat. Davidson had scratches on his arms and neck, but Lisa claimed that they were defensive wounds caused when she was trying to get Davidson off of her. Davidson did not reply to her statement.

I then took Davidson outside in order to conduct a field sobriety test. I administered the HGN test to Davidson of which I observed six clues indicating intoxication. I asked Davidson if there was anyone near who could pick him up but he stated there was not. After finding out where Davidson lived, I decided to place him under arrest for Public Intoxication. After Davidson was informed he was under arrest, he then stated that there were plenty of people who could pick him up.

Also included in the arrest report is the following information

SIGNS OF INTOXICATION

Balance – Swaying
Walk – Swaying
Speech – Incoherent, Thick tongued
Eyes – Bloodshot, Watering, Dilated, Heavy
Breath Odor – Strong Alcohol

Statement Made by defendant regarding his/her arrest: this is going to be on TV

Both victims declined to give written statements or have CSI take photographs. The victims were provided with a victim’s assistance card and related file number.

Arresting officer believes the arrestee to be intoxicated to the degree that arrestee may endanger himself or another. The arrestee posed a possible danger for the following reason(s): after assaulting two employees at their house, Davidson has no means of getting to his apartment safely. He was too intoxicated to drive or walk home. If permitted to walk home he would have had to cross several streets and walk along a major thouroughfare. In his intoxicated state, that would have put him as well as passing motorists in danger. The arrestee was handcuffed and transported to Plano City Jail without incident. Any attached statements and/or supplemental reports are adopted and incorporated herein for all purposes as if recited verbatim.

It seems clear from this report that two police officers independently judged Doyle Davidson to be intoxicated on the night of Sept. 9 2004. It also seems that Officer McEntire might have been willing to release him if Doyle had been willing to call someone to pick him up. Since Davidson indicated that no one was available to do that, the officer had no choice but to place him under arrest for his own safety as well as the safety of others.

Harold and Lisa Staton could have filed assault charges against Doyle Davidson but have chosen not to do so. To this date I am not aware of any public statement made by the Staton’s regarding this incident. In this, they have been more honorable that the ‘apostle’, choosing to allow God to vindicate them rather than take their former pastor and employer to court.

1Tim 3:2-3 A bishop (overseer) must then be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good bahavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous

Although he never mentioned it to the arresting officers, Davidson has since stated that his reason for going to the home of Lisa Staton was to cast a devil out of her. To this day, Davidson continues to insist that Lisa Staton is his 'wife' even though she is and always has been legally married to Harold Staton. As with his public intoxication arrest, Doyle regularly uses his pulpit, television broadcast, and website to announce to the world God will bring his 'wife' Lisa back to him and to pronounce judgments against JR Staton.

Messages such as these appear regularly on his website:

Dear Lisa,

I sent this email to JR and I am forwarding it to you with these instructions. Don't even let JR lay his hands on your body. I have power over your body. (1Corinthians 7)

Love you,
Doyle

JR,

Don't you lay your hands on Lisa, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness. Do not even touch my wife's flesh.

Doyle Davidson

One week later, Davidson posted this prophetic threat against JR Staton on his website

Wednesday, July 27,2005 at 9:40 p.m. - I believe that God is saying that he will remove JR Staton from the earth , and Lisa will come be with me, and conceive and bear me a son, John. God Bless you, Doyle

On June 20, 2006 Davidson posted on his website, the story from Acts 16:16-40 in which Paul and Silas were thrown in jail for casting a spirit of divination out of a woman. After verse 40 Davidson wrote:

"This is the way God deals with false arrests for casting a devil out of a woman"

I responded to this posting with the following email:

Subject: False Arrest?

I see on your website you said this:

"This is the way God deals with false arrests for casting a devil out of a woman"

I can't help but notice that this isn't the way God did it with you is it? Seems that instead of sending an earthquake to open the doors of the jail God sent Jack Turquette and Terry Mai with bail money.

Maybe it's because you weren't arrested for casting a devil out of a woman but rather for public intoxication. Maybe it's because you weren't falsely arrested at all.

I seem to remember you admitting from the pulpit that you had been drinking wine before you went over there.

I also seem to remember you saying you weren't going to fight the charges but pay the fine and let God vindicate you. If you had wanted to be like Paul you should have gone to court and refuted the charges publicly. You had your chance and you chose to admit culpability by paying the fine.

Now you've spent the better part of a year and a half defending yourself from the pulpit. You want to use the forum of television and the internet to bash your accusers without giving them the opportunity to answer you. That is not at all comparable to what Paul did and frankly it shows you to be a bully and a coward.

Every time you mis-apply scripture like this to justify yourself you are condemning yourself by your own words.

I suggest you seek repentance over this along with your adultery and blasphemy. Perhaps God will grant it and you can turn from sin back to righteousness.

Doyle’s response to me was this:

Steve  You are one of  the liars. God bless Doyle

I quoted Davidson’s own words back to him and he called me a liar. In this report I have quoted verbatim the Official Police Report of Davidson’s arrest for public intoxication. I invite the reader to judge who is the liar here. Furthermore I am perfectly willing to allow God to judge between Doyle Davidson and me in this matter.

Over the past three years Doyle Davidson has shown by his own words that he is a liar, an adulterer, and a blasphemer of God. In the summer of 2005 I went to him privately (by phone) as required by Matthew 18:15. I called on him to repent publicly of his adultery with Lisa.  He informed me that God had given Lisa to him as his wife and that he had nothing to repent over. He further stated that I was judging him. I know that others have gone to him over this matter as well. I have not found it necessary to tell it to the church since Davidson himself has proudly admitted these things on his television broadcast.

At this point Doyle Davidson cannot be considered a brother in Christ. He must instead be considered outside the body and under the judgment of God. Our instructions in matters of this nature are clear.

1Co 5:1-2  It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

1Co 5:4-7  In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

1Co 5:11-13  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

I pray that God have mercy on this man.
